Residents of Michigan have purchased more than $92 billion in individual, credit, and group life insurance. Michigan Offices Responsible for Life InsuranceThe Office of Financial and Insurance Services serves Michigan consumers by providing information and assistance to help them understand life insurance and other policies. Michigan was the first state, under the Financial Services Modernization Act in 1999, to coordinate insurance, securities, and financial institution regulations. Chapter 40 of the Michigan Insurance Code regulates many aspects of individual life insurance policies, including payments, interest charges, and the cancellation of policies.
